York floods – thanks for your concern

We escaped the worst of York’s recent floods but would like to thank everyone who showed their concern. We were truly touched at how many of our customers and industry partners contacted us to see how we were doing.
Matters were possibly not helped by BBC News which used a photo of the stretch of The Ouse where we are situated as the background graphic whenever they reported on the story.
Still, anyone who has ever visited our offices was right to worry. As the photo below shows, the river came right up to our front door and even got into the ground floor of Kings House, if only slightly.
However, given our location on the top floor and fact that the building’s systems were designed for this kind of thing (it’s hardly the first time), all was, thankfully, fine.
In the end, we closed the office for just one day. Being a tech firm, our staff were well set up to work from home although we did suffer a temporary outage to our online service desk. We thank anyone who was affected by this for their patience.
After that, it was business as usual. We are pleased to report there was no lasting damage to our building or its electronics.
Others in our historic city were not so lucky. However, it was fantastic to see how our community showed true Yorkshire grit by rallying together to help each other out. York, you did us proud.
