Cybake simplifies orders, accounts and deliveries at Summer Kitchen Bakery
Summer Kitchen Bakery was a pioneer when it first opened in Longley, Tasmania, in 1975.
In those days, when ‘bread’ mostly meant ‘sliced white’, the wholesale bakery’s organic, hand-made sourdough loaves were considered unusual.
Fifty years later, Summer Kitchen Bakery is still supplying its high-quality bread to grocery chains, restaurants, and cafes throughout the Huon Valley. Now located in Ranelagh with a popular bakery café, it is also noted for its pies, cakes and pastries, and uses an Alan Scott woodfired oven to bake daily.
Before using Cybake, the company used accountancy software from Australian provider Reckon to manage its processes, including wholesale orders, pick lists, and production sheets.
Summer Kitchen Bakery’s Merling Glendinning found Cybake online when he was looking for an alternative that could also integrate with the bakery’s accounting package, Xero. The company switched to Cybake in 2023.
Merlin (pictured above right with Cybake ambassador Shaun Pyne) explains: “We primarily use Cybake for building production reports, wholesale standing order management, wholesale pick lists for drivers, delivery routes and confirmation at point of delivery. And we use the driver app for adjusting orders.”
Asked whether Cybake is has improved these processes, Merlin replies: “It improves all processes, to be honest. Before, with Reckon, we were constantly having to maintain a complicated list of standing orders and build production sheets. There were regular mistakes, and it was almost a full-time job.
“Cybake has honestly cut 70% of the difficult work out, and it is consistent and easy to use. Being able to adjust wholesale orders at 5am, or on the delivery run, makes things a heap easier. It is easier to find where we have made mistakes and to get a long-term idea of how much we need to produce.”
Would Summer Kitchen Bakery recommend Cybake to other bakeries?
“Absolutely!” says Merlin. “It makes keeping track of wholesale orders simple. Production and delivery notes and invoices are also very straightforward.
“As the bakery got larger, it became impossible to maintain all our orders correctly. Cybake has made it super simple. It’s gone from a five-hour a day job to, honestly, an hour, depending on what you need to do. Probably less, most days. Adding new customers, products and prices is also very simple, whereas before it was a headache.”
