Bread Bakers Guild of America and Cybake hold webinars for new bakery owners
Cybake is sponsoring a new six-part course of webinars from The Bread Bakers Guild of America called Building Your Bakery: From Vision to Viable Business.
The course’s live two-hour Zoom sessions will take place every Tuesday from May 26 to June 30 4pm-6pm Eastern Time.
Our head of USA operations Luke Karl will be the instructor for the fourth session of series, Designing the Bakery Operation on June 16.
Luke (pictured, below) spent 14 years at Dinkel’s Bakery in Chicago working himself up from bakery apprentice to vice president before joining Cybake in 2022. His session will explore core operational areas, including menu planning, daily workflows, and space usage.
Building Your Bakery: From Vision to Viable Business is aimed at aspiring and early-stage bakery owners and operators as well as bakers interested in improving their systems.
Course content will focus on bakeries in the retail and wholesale bakery space, not in consumer packaged goods.
Alongside Luke, a regular industry speaker, The Bread Bakers Guild has assembled an impressive set of instructors for its course.
These include the Guild’s education manager Wai Chu, a veteran culinary teacher and author; Young Cho, COO and executive chef/baker of Wisconsin-based Simple Food Group, Amy Emberling, managing partner of acclaimed Michigan artisanal bakery Zingerman’s Bakehouse; and Nancie Breunig, chief happiness officer for Missouri-based wholesaler and retailer Companion Baking.
Practical instruction
Each session combines practical instruction, group discussions and ample time for Q&A. For Guild members, the course costs $270 for the six-session series or $50 per session.
For non-members the price is $325 for the series or $60 per session.
Here’s the full lineup and you will find full details and booking on The Bread Bakers Guild of America’s website:
May 26: Bakery Foundations & Business Models
June 2: Planning, Pricing & Financial Basics
June 9: Legal Requirements & Compliance
June 16: Designing the Bakery Operation
June 23: Staffing, Training & Daily Management
June 30: Marketing, Growth & Long-Term Sustainability.
That’s not the only Cybake connection to the Guild’s forthcoming activities. On the evening of May 18, it is holding a Guildhall Gathering at Nashville’s Dozen Bakery
Founded by Claire Meneely in 2009, Dozen Bakery was one of the first bakeries in the USA to adopt Cybake to manage its operations. Her bakery has recently moved into an impressive new 11,000-square-foot home, featuring more than 5,500 square feet dedicated to baking and cooking alongside a spacious café.
Attendees can enjoy an insider tour of the new facility led by Claire and her team, followed by light snacks, drinks, and plenty of time to mingle with bakers from across the region. You can find the full details and registration on The Bread Bakers Guild of America website.
Plus, you can watch a playback of Luke Karl’s last appearance on a Bread Bakers Guild of America webcast, when he was a guest on its Putting Bakery Management Software to Work panel back in October last year, on our YouTube channel.
